DSpace@ScienceUofK homepage keeps improving

A week after the first DSpace-based OASCIR homepage was released, we are now displaying the new DSpace@ScienceUofK interface. Not only the Institutional Repository name has been updated at the homepage, but a list of related resources and links was added as well on its right-hand side section, including international harvesters, e-journal platforms and other institutional repositories.

DSpace@ScienceUofK remains closed yet, but as soon as we're able to attach it to its base URL http://oascir.uofk.edu/ it will be released for the University of Khartoum IP range so the Faculty of Science authors may have a first look at it.

Preliminary version of the OASCIR DSpace platform available

Although not publicly available yet via the Internet, on Fri May 6th the first, preliminary version of the DSpace platform was released that will eventually evolve into the OASCIR Institutional Repository at the Faculty of Science, University of Khartoum. Once a few additional functionalities have been installed and a few configuration issues are tackled, the Intitutional Repository will go live at http://oascir.uofk.edu/

There are still some technical details to complete before the repository becomes fully operational, but some Open Access items were already uploaded to OASCIR along the preliminary deposit tests. Full-text articles and pre-prints from the Faculty of Science Departments of Zoology and Physics, as well as from the Sudan Natural History Museum are already available at DSpace@ScienceUofK, as the IR will finally be called.

The first steps towards Faculty of Science research output identification and ingest into the Institutional Repository were given at the Project first internal meeting on Thu May 5th. Progress is now being made for implementation of the designed strategies.

- installation of the DSpace platform,

- a forthcoming training course on DSpace which will allow for building capacities for Faculty of Science research output deposit into DSpace@ScienceUofK repository.
